Frequently Asked Questions

AM I ABLE TO GON A GROUP TO EGYPT AND ARE THERE CHEAP HOTELS?

Egypt offers a wide variety of 3-star hotels. The prices range from $12 to $20 per person per night in a double room. We suggest checking the hotel directories for rates and locations. Backpacker services are not popular in Egypt, although a few are available.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT EGYPT?

The best time to visit Egypt is from October to May. It is the peak travel season – temperatures are milder though comparatively warmer than in the northern hemisphere. This is our High-Season with its two busiest periods: the Christmas/New Year period and the Easter Period, whereby hotels and cruises will put their prices up.

WHAT IS THE BEST BUDGET WAY TO TRAVEL AROUND EGYPT?

When budgeting for an Egypt tour we recommend doing it through a travel agent like ourselves – this way everything is done for you and you would have a rough idea of how much money you would need.

WHAT CAN I DO IN EGYPT?

We suggest spending a few nights in Cairo, then taking the sleeper train to Aswan, spend another two nights there while visiting Abu Simbel and the Philae temple, and maybe Kom Ombo too.

You can take a cruise down the Nile to Luxor, spend two nights visiting the valley of the kings and queens and the Karnak Temple complex.

WHEN ARE PRICES AT THEIR LOWEST TO VISIT EGYPT?

The high-season is October to May, making June to September (the summer months and the hottest) the low-season and therefore prices are at their lowest.

IS IT SAFE FOR WOMEN TO TRAVEL ALONE?

Yes, it is completely safe for women to travel alone in Egypt.

WHAT VACCINES DO I NEED BEFORE TRAVELLING TO EGYPT?

The ones recommended are yellow fever (common to most parts of Africa), tetanus and hepatitis.

WHAT ARE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS FOR EGYPT?

When touring Egypt, before leaving your hotel, we suggest letting your hotel know where you’re going – should you get lost, the hotel will be able to act on your behalf. We also suggest that you always have your hotels. Address and telephone number as you may need it if you get lost.

WHERE ARE THE BEST PLACES TO EAT IN EGYPT?

It is best to seek out a hotel chain or a well-reviewed restaurant (ask around if you can) then you can be assured to get good, clean food. The price will be worth it.

DO I NEED TO LEARN ARABIC BEFORE TRAVELING TO EGYPT?

No, but learning the basic words: la’ (no) and shukran (thank you) is a real help.

WHAT IS THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT LIKE IN EGYPT?

We suggest using uber or careem as a means of transportation, alternatively ask your hotel for a cab but it’s best to negotiate the price before you go on your ride.

WILL I NEED CASH IN EGYPT?

Usually, only the bigger shops, restaurants and hotels take credit cards. It is best to carry cash – local currency – as it will make your life easier, especially when paying for groceries, taxis, tourist venues, museums, and souvenirs.

AM I ABLE TO TAKE PHOTOS AT THE HISTORIC SITES?

Taking photos inside many temples is restricted, so please follow the advice of your guide however, in some places, the government will charge you for taking photographs.

Due to new policies put in place by the ministry of tourism, cameras are not permitted in the valley of the kings. It is also forbidden to take photographs of the police, anything of a military nature or indeed bridges, airports, and public works.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE WHEN TRAVELLING TO EGYPT?

When visiting mosques, travellers must dress conservatively, i.e., half/long-sleeved shirt and no shorts. In public areas, this would also be our advice however, in some tourist areas such as the seaside, it is perfectly fine to wear shorts and sleeveless shirts.

WHICH AIRLINES FLY TO EGYPT?

Egypt’s national airline is Egypt Air. Most major international airlines fly to Cairo. We suggest you check with your travel agent for more information.
